Rooms

New Vassar contains 165 doubles (two-person rooms) and 120 singles (one-person rooms).

Doubles

There are 165 doubles for undergraduates in New Vassar; each is approximately 180 square feet (17 square meters) in area. Most rooms in each section are clustered around the sections’ lounge, restroom(s), and GRA room. Rooms also contain floor exit maps in case of emergency.

Singles

There are 120 one-person rooms for undergraduates in New Vassar. Each room has everything a student needs for their academic journey in MIT: A desk, a chair, a bed, a shelf, a drawer, and a movable closet. The dimension of a one-person room is ~96sqft. Every one-person room will always be at most a few meters away from a restroom, a lounge, and the section’s GRA room. In a case of emergency, there is a map with a path to the nearest emergency exit at the back of the door.

Floors

Lounges

Each residential floor has three section lounges, each with various amenities (including sofas, chairs and desks, a television, microwave, refrigerator, and sink). Lounges are generally places for students to hang out and relax. Each section elects a section representative which, among other responsibilities, manages the lounge budget for extra lounge decorations or other entertainment purposes.

Study Rooms

Each floor has several study rooms where students can meet and study together. Each study room is equipped with several tables, chairs, and whiteboards with markers. Study room numbers are 2142, 2323, 2325, 3139, 3323, 3325, 4141, 4323, 4325, 5141, 5323, 5325. Each room can hold about at most 5 to 10 people.

Trash Rooms

There are two trash rooms per floors 2 through 5, one at each of the western and eastern ends of the building. You can find additional trash bags in the Trash Rooms.

Open Areas

Mezzanine

Located on floor 1M of New Vassar between the first and second floor, the Mezzanine is a large lounge containing multiple long sofas, one television, as well as two music rooms in the Mezzanine. It is designed to be a room for larger events. The maximum capacity of the mezzanine is 143. The mezzanine may be reserved for student events.

Game Room

Located on the first floor, the game room is a place where students can gather and play games together. It has a billiards table, foosball table, ping-pong table, a giant connect-four board, and comfortable couches. The game room may be reserved for student events.

Meeting Rooms

New Vassar has one meeting room and one conference room on the first floor near the game room. It has many chairs and tables, as well as one television. If you need to hold a meeting in New Vassar, you can reserve this room.

Courtyard

The courtyard is located outside the building. It has several grills, some tables, and some chairs, and it can hold pretty big events.

Country Kitchen

We have a kitchen area at the first floor next to the entrance to the dining hall. Students may use the supplies in the kitchen to cook themselves meals; the kitchen is open 24/7.

Makerspace

New Vassar has a makerspace room on the first floor (room 1410) for student to get creative and make stuff.

Gym and Yoga

You can find the gym and yoga room at New Vassar on floor 1, room 1408 and 1406, respectively. These rooms contain various exercise equipment.

Laundry Room

The laundry room is located at floor 2 room 2205. It has 20 washing machines and 20 drying machines. A washing machine takes 36 minutes to do a full cycle, and a drying machine takes 1 hour to do a full cycle. Each machine costs $1.25 per use. [link to request service maybe]
